In addition to monitoring the uptime and performance of your website, you can now designate Uptrends to also monitor SFTP connections!
SFTP, the Secure File Transfer Protocol, is the protocol used to securely transport files between two locations. Uptrends can monitor your SFTP server for increased security.
How can I set up a monitor for SFTP?
For detailed instructions on how to do this, you can refer to our Knowledge Base article on how to set up an SFTP monitor. But it works very much the same as creating a monitor for a website. When you’re selecting the monitor type in the menu, simply select SFTP. From here you can fill in the monitor name and how often you’d like it checked, as well as the network address of the SFTP server. Then you can select the specific actions you’d like to monitor, like checking if the file exists. After that, it’s just a matter of designating your checkpoints and you’re well on your way!
What kinds of actions are possible with SFTP monitoring?
Once the monitor is set up, there are several actions that you can perform with it. You canconnect to the SFTP server with a username and password that you create. You will then receive an error whenever the server is not available. You can look at specific files within the server to make sure they exist. If the monitor doesn’t register it, you’ll be notified. Contrastingly, you can also check to see if a file doesn’t exist. Finally, you can download files from the server if you please. The monitor will connect to the SFTP server, confirm that the file exists, and download it. The maximum file size you can download is 1MB.
